strayer university

Originally founded in Baltimore, MD in 1892 under the name “Strayer Business College,” this school provides an opportunity for working adults to pursue an education. By 1998, Strayer received university status and expanded to include online college courses as part of their curriculum. Strayer University is not a typical campus university with residence halls and dining halls, but a commuter school with more than 90 campuses and over 60,000 students attending these campuses. This kind of university can be more beneficial to students that have more than one priority in their lives. These 90 campuses include the states of Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington D.C., West Virginia, and Wisconsin.

Strayer University offers degree and certificate programs in accounting, business, criminal justice, economics, information systems, management, public administration, health services administration, and education. Specifically, the Information Systems program is nothing but extensive, as students can choose from 9 different areas as an emphasis. For example, the Database Developer area is made to give students a good understanding of basic database administrative tasks. It also allows students to gain conceptual knowledge of database architecture, and how the architectural structures work and interact with each other. Lastly, students will learn online college education programshow to create an operational database and effectively and efficiently manage an operational database.

The university is both approved and accredited college, and offers students learning resources, career development, library facilities, and academic advising. Strayer University runs courses on a quarterly schedule. The university strives to provide education to their students at their own availability. Strayer University is a great fit for students that have busy lives, but also want to further their education. The university challenges their students, and the professors are accessible enough to their students where questions could be answered.

Certain programs at Strayer vary between campuses or can only be taken online. The quarter system helps students earn their college degrees faster than a traditional semester school, because this type of a schedule is at a faster pace. Each quarter is around 10 weeks long as opposed to a semester, which is 15 weeks long.  The quarter system allows a student to enroll in 3 to 4 courses per quarter. Having a quarter system keeps students motivated to keep up their work, for if one misses a day of a course they are extremely behind in their work.
